Text Mining of Television Transcripts

I am looking for a collaborator with computational linguistic skills for a project mining the dialogue of the U.S. television program Supernatural (CW Network, 2005-present). My goal is to demonstrate, through textual analysis, the originality of the dialogue, the breadth of words and phrases used by the writers, the way language is used to distinguish characters and reveal character traits, etc.The product of this project will be an article for publication in a peer-reviewed venue.

Beyond Citation: Critical Thinking About Digital Research

We want to be the "Missing Manual" for digital research collections. While the use of databases such as ProQuest’s Historical Newspapers or Gales’ Nineteenth Century Collections Online is common, these tools have largely escaped critique by traditional humanities scholars. Knowledge of the way proprietary databases work is limited because their structures and content are opaque. As a result, scholars may not be able to discover the provenance of documents or to understand why certain search results are returned.

Art History Teaching Resources (AHTR) is a peer-populated platform for art history teachers. AHTR is home to a constantly evolving and collectively authored online repository of art history teaching content including, but not limited to, lesson plans, video introductions to museums, book reviews, image clusters, and classroom and museum activities. The site promotes discussion and reflection around new ways of teaching and learning in the art history classroom through a peer-populated blog, and fosters a collaborative virtual community for art history instructors at all career stages.

Human Adult Neurogendering: Brain Plasticity and Sex Difference Research

ABSTRACT: This paper analyses the extent to which the growing research on neuroplasticity in the 20th century related to neuroscientific investigations into sex differences. In the late 19th century, William James formulated the notion of a malleable brain that is responsive to exterior influences. At the same time, however, the influential work of Santiago Ramón y Cajal led to an adoption of the view of a static adult brain.

Annotation Studio

Annotation Studio is an open source, web-based annotation application that integrates a powerful set of textual interpretation tools behind an intuitive and easy-to-use interface. Users can upload their own texts, and annotate with styled text, video, images, and weblinks. To date, the project has been used with great success in disciplines such as Writing, Literature, Foreign Languages, Anthropology, Film and Media Studies, and others at institutions including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, Barnard College, and Washington University.

Andrew W. Mellon Project Manager for Digital Initiatives

The UCLA Hammer Museum is seeking to hire a Project Manager for Digital Initiatives to oversee a new online platform that will make our collections, exhibitions, and programs more dynamic and accessible to both scholarly and general audiences. Funded by a 3-year grant from the Andrew W. Placeable: Place-based mobile learning experiences

The Placeable project supports the development of a mobile, place-based learning platform that is modular and customizable for small to medium cultural organizations. Our pilot project site at The Wassaic Project, a multi-disciplinary cultural center located in rural Dutchess County, New York, provides arts and humanities learning fostered through local school and community participation.
