The Bentham Project

The Bentham Project, part of UCL's Faculty of Laws, is preparing a new authoritative edition of The Collected Works of Jeremy Bentham, which is being published by Oxford University Press. The twenty-sixth volume to be published will appear in 2005. It is anticipated that, when complete, the edition will run to sixty-eight volumes. Each volume contains an Editorial Introduction, full annotation, and comprehensive name and subject indexes.

Source material
The Bentham Papers, numbering around 60,000 manuscript items, contains material written by, and associated with, Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832), the utilitarian philosopher and reformer. Most of these items were deposited in University College London Library by John Bowring, Bentham's literary executor, in the middle of the nineteenth century. The new database catalogue will contain details of each piece of manuscript, including dates, headings, and titles, and will, where appropriate, be linked to transcriptions and digital images of the manuscripts.
