Edinburgh City of Print

Edinburgh: City of Print is a joint AHRC and Museum Galleries Scotland funded partnership project between the Scottish Archive of Print and Publishing History Records (SAPPHIRE) and City of Edinburgh Museums. The project aims to highlight Edinburgh’s rich printing and publishing heritage through the online provision of photographs, film and sound recordings relating to the collections of City of Edinburgh Museums.

Edinburgh City of Print www.edinburghcityofprint.org aims to provide access to the printing and publishing collections of the City of Edinburgh Museums. This site gives visitors the opportunity to view previously unseen items from these collections, to understand the history of these key industries that shaped Edinburgh and to discover the working lives behind them

The project catalogued over 1,500 items from the City of Edinburgh's printing collections. These collections were photographed and made available online. Further context was provided to these collections through the gathering of oral testimony from former Edinburgh printers who recalled their experiences of working within the industry in Edinburgh.
