Latin American Art: an on-line research resource

The aim has been to make the University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art (UECLAA) available as a fully illustrated online catalogue. We began by developing a database that would facilitate management of the collection, integrating the full illustrated catalogue with mailing lists, contact and biographical details for artists, details of copyright agreements and other reports forms (records of donation etc), and information about the current location of a work of art etc.

Papers of Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806 - 1859)

The University of Bristol, UK, holds over 33,000 pages in the Brunel Collection. This collection contains the personal papers of the Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a key figure in the Industrial Revolution. However, despite its importance as a scholarly resource, no electronic catalogue of the collection exists and physical access is limited. In 2003 the University was awarded an AHRB resource enhancement grant to carry out a pilot digitization project to bring this resource to a wider audience via the Internet.

Developing Archival Context Standards for Functions in the Higher Education Sector

The project is carrying out research into the potential impact of a functional approach to archival description. It is verifying new ways of accessing archival information by identifying and describing the functions and activities of Scottish Higher Education Institutions from the fifteenth century to the present day, flagging up relevant archival records held in Scottish Universities and Colleges.

The Everyman Theatre, Liverpool: electronic catalogue of its archive and associated developments

The project is archiving material from the Everyman Theatre in order to create an online electronic archive and ensure material is available for researchers. It is the aim of the project to provide a working research resource for theatre professionals, academics, students, and any parties interested in the Everyman Theatre or the development of English Regional Theatre.

Chopin's First Editions Online

The project has four key aims:

1. To create an online resource uniting the original impressions of Chopin's first editions in an unprecedented virtual collection

2. To develop complex textual interlinking of this virtual collection and relevant excerpts of the Annotated Catalogue of Chopin's First Editions (co-authored by Christophe Grabowski and John Rink, to be published by Cambridge University Press in 2005)

3. To provide comparative text-analytical commentary on the multiple first editions in this archive

Cataloguing the Papers of Wilfred Ward (1856-1916)

The Papers of the Roman Catholic Modernist movement held in St Andrews University Library are of central importance to the study of Roman Catholic theology in the late nineteenth and early 20th century. Amongst the group, the papers of Wilfrid Ward (1856-1916) are of great importance. Prior to this project, they were the only element of the broader collection which did not benefit from internet-deliverable detailed listing.

Dictionary of the Scots Language

The aim of this project was to create the Dictionary of the Scots Language, an electronic scholarly dictionary covering the Scots language from 1200 to the present. This was successfully completed and published on-line, and serves students of Scottish language, literature and culture around the world. With limited resources and in the short time-scale of three years, the project undertook to digitise and publish in searchable form on the Internet all 11 volumes of the Dictionary of the Older Scottish Tongue and the 10 volumes of the Scottish National Dictionary.

Digitisation of the dictionary of the Irish language

This project (2003-07) set out to digitise and publish the complete contents of the Royal Irish Academy’s Dictionary of the Irish Language (DIL). The Dictionary has been an invaluable tool to scholars and students since its publication in twenty-three separate fasciculi between 1913 and 1976 but the difficulties in using the paper edition are widely recognised.

The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in Britain and Ireland (CRSBI) is an evolving electronic archive of British and Irish Romanesque stone sculpture.

ROMANESQUE SCULPTURE

Romanesque sculpture marks a high point of artistic production in Britain and Ireland, corresponding to the boom in high-quality building that followed the Norman Conquest in 1066, and reflecting a new set of links with mainland Europe. A good deal of this sculpture remains in parish churches and cathedrals, houses and halls, castles and museums throughout these isles.
