I have designed and managed the creation of two online learning tools: 1. a training manual and 2. a virtual exhibit with commentaries and digital facsimiles. The training manual is the first comprehensive guide to rare book handling for photographers and was a collaborative effort with conservators, a graphic designer and a photographer. It has been read in 43 countries so far and has also been implemented for training at a number of libraries and other institutions. The virtual exhibit was originally a physical exhibit on the Nibelungenlied that I guest curated at the Beinecke Rare Book Library. A professor in the West wrote and asked if we couldn't get it online so he could use it as a teaching tool. I also run the Yale Working Group in Book History, which has a web presence and e-newsletter: http://bibliofile.commons.yale.edu/ In addition to these projects, I have a part-time job at a graphic design and photography studio that is part of Yale. There I I have help manage photographers, clients and projects in an academic environment. A part of that work has to do with creating digital facsimiles of rare books, artifacts, slides, etc, and a larger part has to do with managing relationships. I would be happy to share my experience with others. Personally, I think the most important information is how to plan collaborations effectively by communicating successfully.
